70013 Oliver Cromwell, BR Britannia Class 4-6-2

Photographed on 7 February 2009 inside the shed at the Great Central Railway, Loughborough.
Built in 1951 at Crewe and withdrawn in 1968 after being overhauled and repainted at Crewe Works in January 1967 to go back into traffic until the very last day of BR steam operation. Note that the nameplate is removed here, probably to prevent it being stolen!

I believe that this painted on name plate was discovered during restoration when the plates were removed and that they do sometimes run her in this state. Earlier this year 70013 was running as 70048 (I think) named Territorial Army etc so that is probably why they are currently off.
I seriously doubt that her Oliver Cromwell plates are the original ones as, even in the current financial climate, they would be worth between £30k and £50k. So if there's anyone out there with a set......

Tender attached to 70013 is in fact the same one as used by 70014 from new, and thus has many times had the Golden Arrow Pullman coaches in tow. Tenders were swopped in 1967

The last driver of the Oliver Cromwell was my farther in law, Hubert Brook, I have a photo of Hubert on the engine at Patricroft, Eccles the day it was withdrawn from service.
