CSX 2216 RoadMateAnother photo has gotten the topic of "Road Slugs" and "Yard Slugs" started (
picture #7629). Here is an older locomotive that CSX modified in their shops. This was originally an EMD GP30. It has the prime mover, generator and most of the guts removed. The traction motors are left and power from the "Mother" (#6417 in this case) is used power the slug. Another nickname is Cow and Calf combo. The cab is fully functional and can be used to operate the train from.

It wouldn't be steamed out, say; and filled with water, for ballast....?
