43924 was withdrawn by BR in June 1965 and went to the Barry scrapyard that September. It was however the first locomotive to be rescued from the scrap line, having been purchased by the Midland 4F Preservation Society, leaving Barry in 1968.
Although in operation on the K&WVR in the 1970s and 1980s, it has not been in use for 25 years, but should re-enter service in August 2011 after an overhaul and a successful steam test.
